Abstract: Binary systems subject to generic perturbations evolve on quasiperiodic orbits. We derive the most generic class of perturbations (including both the Brumberg force and gravitational radiation reaction to sufficiently high orders), which allow to evaluate secular effects via generalized complex true and eccentric anomaly parameters, by use of the residue theorem. We illustrate the power of the method by computing the self-spin contributions to the gravitational luminosity of a compact binary.
